Mission Work
|
In the history of the church, in particular the
western church, mission work has been thought of exclusively as
evangelism.
Something along the idea of someone denying the comforts of home
and heading out into the jungles of a foreign nation, into the
unknown, and using all of their time sharing the Gospel of Jesus.
This, actually, is only partly accurate.
Today other nations are sending Christian missionaries even to the
United States! Mission work is different today, but yet, the
same. Every believer is a missionary, a witness,
called by the Lord to spread the Gospel, beginning with our
own 'hometown' (Jerusalem) and then unto the world.
|
|
But before we can perform effective mission work
we must make sure of several things 'in our camp': that we truly
have been called by the Lord, that we have enabled the work
through prayer (not by our own strength) and that we are ready to
forsake our self for the Gospel.
|
In most nations and cultures Christians are closely
observed by nationals waiting to see if the message
'preached' matches the 'life lived'. It is as if they are waiting
for us to gain their permission before they will even consider
listening. Our focus is to 'live the life' of
Christ
first and foremost. In doing so, we have been blessed of the
Lord with several avenues that enable us to minister to physical
needs (living the life) to gain permission to minister to
spiritual needs. Our ministry of mission work, living out
and sharing the Gospel, includes Biblical Tech/Sewing Schools
[PURPOSE],
Biblical Tech/Carpentry Schools
[PURPOSE], building houses,
construction work projects, street evangelism, revival meetings
and ministering in prayer.

As we minister to the physical needs of a community
the door to minister to spiritual needs opens!

We
often refer to our ministry as that of being a R.E.M.
ministry - a ministry of revival, evangelism
and missions. There are many components to
the ministry that our Lord has called us to, such as:
-
Children's Ministry
-
Special Music Ministry
-
Revival Meetings and Campaigns
-
Prayer Ministry
-
Prison Ministry
-
Street Evangelism
